Experience

Ms. Woodland is experienced in handling cases for plaintiffs and defendants through all stages of litigation including mediation, trials, and appeals in state and federal court.  She handles a broad range of matters including breach of contract, business torts, fraud, partnership disputes, defamation and sexual harassment.

Prior to joining Novian & Novian, Lauren was a litigation associate at White & Case LLP.  She received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where she was managing editor of the UCLA Entertainment Law Review, and received her B.A. in History magna cum laude from the University of Southern California.

Representative Matters:

  • Represented landlord plaintiff in breach of commercial lease action against tenant who alleged constructive eviction and negligence due to mold at the premises. Obtained favorable six-figure settlement in favor of landlord within days after filing a motion for summary adjudication/judgment on both the complaint and cross-complaint.
  • Successfully defended Estonian cloud mining company against a class action alleging violations of California consumer and securities laws. After defeating plaintiff’s motion to compel defendant’s deposition in Los Angeles, plaintiff’s counsel was forced to travel to Minsk, Belarus to take defendant’s deposition. The parties attended mediation shortly thereafter and the case settled for a fraction of plaintiff’s counsel’s demand.
  • Successfully defended borrower against breach of contract action in federal court. Days after filing a Rule 12(b)(2) motion to dismiss plaintiff’s complaint for lack of personal jurisdiction over defendant, plaintiff settled for significantly less than its alleged damages.
  • Represented claimant entertainment studio in arbitration against its former co-venturer. After defeating respondent’s application for right to attach order in the trial court and bringing a motion to compel compliance and for sanctions against respondent, the case settled in favor of claimant for a seven-figure sum.
  • Represented fourteen parents and eight minor children in negligence action against daycare center. Obtained high six-figure settlement after making insurance policy limit demand.
